The 7th Indonesian International Cocoa Conference (IICC) and Dinner 2019

The 7th Indonesian International Cocoa conference/IICC was organized by the Indonesian Cocoa Association (ASKINDO)

in collaboration with the Indonesian Cocoa Board on November 14-15, 2019 at the Westin Hotel, Nusa Dua, Bali.

 

The theme of the 7th Indonesian International Cocoa Confernce (IICC) is

“The Future of Smallholder Cocoa farmers: Challenges for Resilient Production Toward Sustainable Business”.

The opening of the 7th Indonesian International Cocoa Conference and Dinner 2019 on November 14th, 2019 by the Deputy of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahendra Siregar.

The theme chosen for the conference is in line with current conditions where many problems are faced in the cocoa sector,

and we need to discuss and find solutions to these problems.

One of the main issues is the welfare of farmers who are the first link in the cocoa chain and business.

 

The IICC was opened by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahendra Siregar and closed by the Minister of Trade Mr. Agus Suparmanto.

The conference was attended by participants representing the Government, Companies, Non-Governmental Organizations, Financial Institutions,

Academics and national and international cocoa institutions.

 

The goals of the 7th IICC were:

 

  • Communicate global sustainable cocoa development and implementation.
  • Promote awareness of sustainable cocoa and its products including the cocoa industry, cocoa processing, cocoa growing and consumption.
  • Organize cooperation between industry, processing, research and other parties in the global cocoa community.

Some of the topics covered in the panels and discussions at the 7th IICC event included:

  • Sustainability challenges for the cocoa industry
  • The challenge of improving cocoa quality
  • Resilient and sustainable economy.
  • Regulations to support the sustainability of the cocoa sector
  • Paradigm shift in the cocoa sector in the digital world.
  • What needs to change to ensure the sustainability of smallholder cocoa production and the cocoa industry.
